Dr John Merson
Dr John Merson is the Executive Director of the Institute and an honorary professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
John is the former Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies at UNSW and has been a consultant to UNESCO, APEC, IUCN, DEST and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
He was a member of the Australian Indonesia Steering Committee on Science and Technology, and the Australia Korea Forum. He is the author of six books and a wide range of academic papers and research covering issues of environment and development; adaptive environmental policy and management; and climate change adaptation and mitigation. For his journalistic work he is the recipient of a United Nations Media Peace Prize.
Alex Dunlop is the BMWHI office manager. Alex has 15 years experience in client services, event management and TV production. In her most recent roles Alex has used her skill set as an executive assistant and is now working on administration requirements for the Institute.
Annabel Murray is the Low Carbon Living program manager. Annabel comes to the BMWHI with a background in biology, conservation, community development and organic food. She had a career working in the small business and social services sectors before returning to university to study Environmental Science. For her UNSW Honors thesis, Annabel studied the urban bushland of Girraween Park in Sydney’s Wolli Creek.
Claire Absolum is the Institute's communications and marketing manager. Claire is a former ABC and SBS TV journalist and a directing graduate of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. In a career spanning 20 years, Claire's work has been broadcast in prime time on national television, nominated for two Walkley awards, shown at film festivals and used to launch marketing campaigns for social justice causes.
